Today is the last day of the NHL regular season and the Avs are one little point behind Vancouver for capturing the division going into the playoffs. Basically what that means is: If Vancouver loses today, and we win today, we win the division. There are a couple reasons as to why winning the division is significant: First, we'd be guaranteed a top 3 seed, which means that instead of playing the peaking St. Louis Blues, we'd play either the Mighty Ducks of Crapaheim or the upstart Minnesota Wild--allowing us to save our grit for later series'. Second, while I knew if we won the division it would be our ninth straight (out of nine seasons of Avalanche existance), I
didn't know that it would be an NHL record for consecutive division titles by one team.
